Leif Selim Segerstam (/ ˈ l eɪ f / LAYF, Swedish: [ˈlɛjf ˈsěːɡɛʂʈam]; [citation needed] born 2 March 1944) is a Finnish conductor, composer, violinist, violist and pianist, especially known for writing 343 symphonies as of March 2021, along with other works in his extensive oeuvre. Leif Segerstam (born March 2, 1944 in Vaasa) is a Finnish conductor and composer. He studied violin, piano and conducting at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and conducting at the Juilliard School in New York with Jean Morel. He is currently the emeritus chief conductor of Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
